Earth
07:06
|
|||
The warm wet Earth breathes in
She lets both past and future fall
And tender now she smiles
To feel the air with water dance
Her rich dark womb is
The tabernacle of their kiss
And tender now the Earth smiles
To feel the love within her bloom
Flowers swim in the blue of the skies
Pirouette on her slow-blinking eyes
The sun pours down, its light dripping through shade
And all to all is bound in mutual serenade
The storm is now far away
The worms return to deeper soil
And tender now the earth smiles
For beauty come of beauty past
Flowers swim in the blue of the skies
Pirouette on her slow-blinking eyes
The sun pours down, its light dripping through shade
And all to all is bound in mutual serenade
A horse’s hoof springs from the ground
But though soil flies there is no sound
No beating trot resounds from the track
No clinking of armour from its back
Whereon sits a man in shifting flames
A pentacle on his shield proclaims
He is the kinsman of the earth
The two being born of a single birth

Pale Old Eye
06:21
|
|||
Softly, I tread upon the leaves
The frosted fragments are stolen by the breeze
The cloud-veiled sun sees the pieces fly
And watches my breath blossom with its pale eye
And under its gaze I wander down this track
Each two steps forward, there is one step back
And like this stream I feel myself confined
To the path ahead, well I may be blind
But that path is sure
And I will find a home
That path is sure
And I will find a home
Flowers fall away from my sleep
The night is bare as the small hours creep
Then dawn brings colour, the cockerel’s knowing squawk
And that pale old eye insists I walk
And under its gaze I wander down this track
Each two steps forward, there is one step back
And like this stream I feel myself confined
To the path ahead, well I may be blind
But that path is sure
And I will find a home
That path is sure
And I will find a home

Pebble
07:22
|
|||
The air that seeps into my nostrils smells like decay
It smells like the minutes as they wink and pass away
Or the smoke of a thousand pages I’ve failed to read
Or a question unasked, or a long-neglected creed
The clothes that need ironing grumble from their perch on the chair
The people in the posters fix the opposite wall with their stare
The words that they’ve not said to me seem to ring round my head
As solitude makes love to itself inside my bed
And is alone
And stale
And rotting to the bone
And the bones themselves turn to pebbles beneath the weight
Of fistfuls of dreams that they’ve failed to create
But even those pebbles with a polish and a light
May shine like the moon on this short summer’s night
The sounds that pour into my ears are fuzzy and cold
The dusty vibrations of a dead man’s vocal-folds
A song that never got written, was never set free
As solitude duets in splintered harmony
And is alone
And stale
And rotting to the bone
And the bones themselves turn to pebbles beneath the weight
Of fistfuls of dreams that they’ve failed to create
But even those pebbles with a polish and a light
May shine like the moon on this short summer’s night
Now morning comes round with that glint in its eye
That draws from my lung a long-overdue sigh
Birds ride upon the thermals
Some dropping and flitting back up to the branches
Crimson first suggests itself
And you can see now the pebbles beneath the sun
Light and precious still
Light and precious still
Beneath the burning of the sun

Tide of Your Touch
08:36
|
|||
On this train to London where we’ll soon part
Every breath is blue with the word goodbye
And the tide of your touch draws back in
Lapping at the shoreline of my mind
I want to skip on back in and be free once more
But in this carriage dislocation keeps us confined
And our eyes drop once again, each from each
But how your warm body sits so closely to mine
I still feel the breeze as it blows in
Taste the sea upon your skin
Hear you whisper dreams across the dunes
Salty shapes of a thousand moons
In each breath that we take
I hear waves break
Moving on through London I meet an old man
With a cloudy eye and a smile on his face
My ears hang on a city of long ago
But my vagabond mind simply walks away
I still feel the breeze as it blows in
Taste the sea upon your skin
Hear you whisper dreams across the dunes
Salty shapes of a thousand moons
In each breath that we take
I hear waves break
I still feel the breeze as it blows in
Taste the sea upon your skin
Hear you whisper dreams across the dunes
Salty shapes of a thousand moons
In each breath that we take
I hear waves break

Waterbird
07:22
|
|||
Undulant and spreading
Your love
Your love through me
Forming shapes like skin
As embracing hands press
Which flow
Liquid and massy
And melt
They melt
Melt
Melt into colour
The gloomy arches which hang
Like scorched paper
Cannot withstand such a splash
They distort and are transformed
And flow
And sputter at the edges
And melt
They melt
Melt
Melt into colour
We flow each into each
At the conflux of our reach
Your wing laps up to mine
And mine to yours again
Wombed here we’re pure as rain
And this spiral is a spout
We flow out
Your wing laps up to mine
And mine to yours again
Wombed here we’re pure as rain
Pure as rain
Pure as rain
Pure
